The World is Still Beautiful, or originally known as Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii, is an adventure and fantasy anime series released in 2014. Although anime lovers know it for its anime, the series is based on the manga written by Dai Shiina and published between 2012 and 2020. The anime was animated by Pierrot studio, who has signed on popular anime such as Black Clover or Yona of the Dawn. Originally aired on Nippon TV, the series was also licensed by Sentai Filmworks and featured on Crunchyroll. The anime originally aired from April 6, 2014, to June 29, 2014, as 12 episodes. So, can there still be a second season after a long time? In the continuation of our article, we have compiled all the known ones, but first, let’s remember the series.
What is the plotline of The World is Still Beautiful?
The story starts with the Sun King, who has an unfortunate past. His unloved mother in the palace was assassinated. The king, who is devoted to his mother, is destroyed by her death. When he takes the throne, he begins to take his anger out on other countries and proceeds to dominate the whole world. Nike, the 4th daughter of the Rain Dukedom, is sent to marry the new king of the Sun Kingdom against her will. Although no one believes, the royal lineage in the Rain Dukedom can summon rain. In the Sun Kingdom, it doesn’t rain easily.
When Nike arrives at the port, she falls into the trap of bandits. She wants to catch them but faints from hunger and exhaustion. The owner of an inn in that area helps her, and Nike offers to help them with their daily chores in return for their kindness. Meanwhile, when the bandits learn that she is a princess, they attempt to kidnap her but accidentally kidnap the innkeeper’s daughter. Learning this, Nike uses her power to save the girl and sets out for the palace. In there, Nike learns that the king is younger than her. However, he is more mature for his age. With the arrival of Nike, the Sun King gradually changes and brings out the innocent, good-hearted character in him. He begins to treat the public better and strives for equality.
Despite the age and height problem between Nike and the king, once they get used to each other, there will be nothing they won’t do for each other; they will fight for their love, save each other, and show us that no obstacle can stand in the way of love.
Will there be a second season of the anime?
As of October 3, 2021, studio Pierrot, manga publisher Hakusensha, or any related company haven’t renewed the anime for a second season. Sometimes, years later, it may be possible to see animes renewed for a new season. However, for this, that anime has to be a really expected series. Since animes are for-profit, it will not be profitable for the creators to shoot the second season of an unpopular series. We have been reviewing and speculating about a new season, as there has been no official renewal or cancellation.
As we mentioned at the beginning of our article, the manga of the series was written by Dai Shiina and published by Hakusensha between 2012 and 2020. The series, which contains 25 volumes in total, unfortunately, does not have an English publisher. Only the first 4 volumes were adapted into the anime’s first season, and it seems that there is enough source material available to create a new season or more.
It has been a long time since the first season of the anime, and it is worth noting that it is no longer as popular as it used to be. It does not have serious search popularity on Google and is followed by only 7,000 people on Twitter. The series fell short of targets, selling only 972 units in disc sales in 2014, where the disc was very popular, and perhaps the reason we haven’t seen a second season so far is for financial reasons. Because the series does not have a powerful distributor like Netflix or game that can generate additional revenue. According to our evaluation results, we do not expect to see a new season, as the anime fell short in terms of popularity. It is still possible that seeing a new season in the coming years because the manga provides sufficient source material, but this is very unlikely.
