Netflix has been investing heavily in anime content in recent years. One of the last examples of this was the Gokushufudou manga adaptation anime series The Way of the Househusband. The action and comedy anime series is based on the manga series that Kousuke Oono has been writing since 2018. ‘J.C.Staff‘, the studio, creator of many successful animes in recent years, also took part in this anime. We know the studio for many record-breaking animes such as One Punch Man and Food Wars. The Netflix licensed anime was aired globally on April 8, 2021. The first season with five episodes was enough to gain a fan base. So has Netflix renewed the series for a second season?
What is the plotline of the anime?
The legendary yakuza “Tatsu Immortal”, who single-handedly defeated a rival gang, is a name known to instill fear in tough police officers and ruthless criminals alike. Shortly after his disappearance, he reappears with a slight change in his profession. Now choosing to walk around in an apron, Tatsu has renounced violence and devoted his life to an honest life as a househusband.
As Tatsu tries to fit in with mundane household chores, he discovers that being a househusband has its own unique challenges, from the battlefield known as supermarket sales to failures in the kitchen. Although he lives peacefully, misunderstandings constantly drag him into funny situations. Gokushufudou focuses on the daily life of the hilariously serious ex-yakuza while leaving his previous dangerous life behind to become a good househusband.
The anime’s voiceovers were really successful. However, on the animation side, some fans seem unsatisfied. Because it looked more like a combined manga segment than an anime. We know that the show’s studio has done a great job on many record-breaking animes, but a different style has been chosen for the anime here, and maybe that style will change in the coming seasons.
Will there be a second season of The Way of the Househusband?
Good news for fans because the five episodes that aired were not the end of the series. According to the news made right after the first season, the anime will get an upcoming Part 2. The quick renewal and Part 2 title indicate that future episodes may already be ready. We probably won’t be waiting for a new season for years like in some animes. An official release date has not been announced yet, but the new season of the anime could be on screen towards the end of 2021.
On the other hand, the manga series is still ongoing. The manga series published by Shinchosha is also published in English, thanks to Viz Media. Currently, the original series has reached a total of 7 volumes and 73 chapters. In the first part of the anime, 26 chapters were adapted. Assuming that the manga series will continue, this indicates that we may see new seasons other than part 2.
However, source material adequacy is not the only major factor for an anime to last through the seasons. On the other hand, popularity matters as well. The anime is also licensed by China’s giant video streaming platform Bilibili Video, which means serious viewing potential. Financially, we think the anime is not an obstacle for a new season.
