“The Eighth Son? “That Can’t Be Right!” Aka The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me? is a fun action fantasy anime like its name. The original title is “Hachinan tte, Sore wa Nai deshou!”. It is an adaptation of a manga written by Japanese manga writer Y.A. and illustrated by Fuzichoco. The Crunchyroll licensed anime was originally launched on Tokyo MX, BS11, AT-X local Japanese channels. A total of 12 episodes were broadcast between April 2, 2020 – June 18, 2020. Although the anime is not broadcast on global platforms such as Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu TV, it has managed to find viewers from all over the world. The second season of the anime prepared by Shin-Ei Animation, which has been successful in the anime industry since the 1970s, is curious. Has Crunchyroll renewed the series for a second season? When will it be released?
What was the plotline of ‘The Eighth Son? That Can’t Be Right!’?
25-year-old Shingo Ichinomiya, who works for a corporate foundation, goes to bed with the dream of a full working day tomorrow. But when he wakes up, Shingo finds himself in an unfamiliar room, realizing that he is in the body of a 6-year-old boy, who he realizes is taking control of his body with his mind. Shingo soon learns from the boy’s memories that he is the youngest son of a poor noble family living in the countryside. Lacking talent in administrative matters, he cannot do anything to manage his family’s vast territory.
Fortunately, he has magic, which is a very rare skill. Unfortunately, although his talent could bring wealth to his family, in his case, it only brought disaster. The story of this boy named Wendelin Von Benno Baumeister, opening his own path in a brutal world.
Although it has a story that we are used to from anime, its plot and story are considered successful. We think that in the possible second season of the series, the missing character development will focus.
Will there be a second season of the anime?
Neither the studio nor Crunchyroll renewed the series for a second season. There is no notice of cancellation yet as well. But is there any chance that the series will be renewed? We will evaluate whether the series will have a second season with some parameters. The most important of these are manga status and popularity.
Manga Status (Light Novel by Y.A.)
As we mentioned before, the series is an adaptation of Light Novel. The light novel written by Y.A started to be published in April 2014. The good news is that it continues today. A total of 20 volumes have been published for the light novel. The latest volume was released in July 2020. Manga Compared to Anime: Anime covers only five volumes of Manga. It stopped in the middle of fifth volume. This means that there is enough source material for a second season or more.
The other factors
Although the manga provides enough resources for a second season, the popularity of the series affects the odds of the second season. From this point of view, unfortunately, the series did not achieve the desired success. User comments on social media also say that the series is similar to many anime and does not offer anything different. The animation studio was last able to continue for a second season for the anime “Teasing Master Takagi-san” in 2018. Kâito jôkâ, one of the Crunchyroll licensed anime, started to be published in 2014 and continued its broadcast life for more than a season. But The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me? won’t be like that. The ratings of the anime are meager, and they have a below-average score on IMDb and Myanimelist.

When is the release date of the anime?
When all the possibilities are evaluated, it is seen that although the manga offers sufficient resources, the popularity of the series is below average, and the studio has generally made single-season series in its previous works.
