Record of Ragnarok is a fighting-themed action anime series released by Netflix in the summer of 2021. Netflix lists dozens of anime every year, and many of them are published under the Netflix main license. Anime lovers are delighted that Netflix frequently features these works from Japanese culture spread all over the world. Animated by Graphinica and originally released on Netflix on June 17, 2021, Record of Ragnarok was adapted from manga like many other animes. Although Graphinica studio is not a new studio, they currently have very few products, and Record of Ragnarok is the most valuable anime the studio currently has. The manga is written by Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui. As we are used to in many fighting series, the manga of the series, which progresses within the tournament framework, has become one of the most read in Japan. (It is currently surpassed Kengan Ashura and Baki.) The anime’s first season has already enticed viewers to read the manga. But the real question is, has the anime been renewed for a second season?
What is the plotline of the anime?
Every 1,000 years, the Gods meet in Heaven to decide on the future of Humanity. In short, we can call this meeting the “Human Survival Conference”. But at the last meeting, because of the mistakes made by Humans, the Gods decide that humankind should perish. But one of the gods will oppose this and make an offer to give humankind the last chance. According to this proposal, a struggle called “Ragnarok” will be held between Gods and Humans. In this fight, the winner of 7 of 13 battles will be the champion. Let’s see if Humanity can beat the Gods and say stop to the end.
Will there be a second season of Record of Ragnarok?
According to the announcement shared on the official website and the official Twitter account of the anime on August 18, 2021; Record of Ragnarok has been renewed for a second season. The new season date was not included in the shared renewal news. However, a long production time may be required. In addition, it was announced in the news that the anime will also be broadcast on Japanese networks. A key visual is also shared with the fans. As of May 28, 2022, the renewal announcement is still the latest information about the new season.
Manga
As we mentioned at the beginning of our article, Record of Ragnarok manga is written by Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui and illustrated by Ajichika. Published in Japan by Tokuma Shoten and Coamix, the series will also meet with readers in English thanks to Viz Media in the coming days. The series published its first volume in Monthly Comic Zenon on November 25, 2017. The good news is that the series is still ongoing. Anime not only makes a profit on its own but also increases manga sales. Also, the continuation of the series means that more source material can be adapted into the anime.
The manga series released its latest volume on March 19, 2022, reaching 14 volumes in total. The anime’s first season covered the manga’s first 5 volumes. It seems that there is almost as much source material as used in the first season. Considering that the manga series is ongoing, there will be no problem regarding source material to create new seasons. The manga of the series has 9 million copies in circulation as of December 2021, which is really good popularity. The presence of a strong manga behind the anime series strengthens the possibilities for further seasons.
Popularity and other details
Anime series are for-profit productions, so having a strong distributor like Netflix behind the series keeps it in a good financial position. From this perspective, it is likely that the series has already received sufficient financial support for a second season. Netflix gave the series a chance for at least one more season, as the story left many open doors for a second season. When we look at Google searches, we see that it has a higher search volume than other animes released in the same period. One reason is that it is aired on Netflix, and the viewerships look pretty good.
The anime’s official Twitter page is currently followed by 36k people. Although this number of followers is low, it has serious popularity around the world. However, Netflix animes do not always manage to be popular in Japan, and the previous season did not air on local networks. For this reason, we think that the popularity of anime in Japan will increase in the coming days.
When is the second season of Record of Ragnarok?
The first season of Record of Ragnarok was announced in December 2020 and met with the audience only six months later. The absence of a long time between the announcement and the broadcast means that the series can prepare for a new season in about one year. The Graphinica studio behind the anime is a fairly new studio trying to prove itself. The studio will be as eager as the fans for a new season’s preparation. As of May 28, 2022, still, the release date of the new season has not yet been announced. Considering the average production and renewal time, the series’s second season will likely meet with the audience end of 2022 or early in 2023. We will update our article with official updates. Stay tuned.
