Non Non Biyori Season 4 Release Date, Renewed or Cancelled?

Non Non Biyori is a comedy and slice of life genre manga series written by Atto and published by Media Factory in Monthly Comic Alive for many years. The manga series has been publishing since 2009, but anime lovers first got to know it with the anime television series published in the fall of 2013. It was one of Silver Link‘s early works. The studio later took part in many popular animes such as Chivalry of a Failed Knight and Bofuri. The anime’s second season met with the audience with the title ‘Non Non Biyori Repeat‘ and the third season with the title ‘Non Non Biyori Nonstop‘. The last season of the series, ‘Nonstop’, aired from January 11, 2021, to March 29, 2021. All seasons are licensed by Sentai Filmworks and listed on Crunchyroll. Fans of anime from around the world are eager for a fourth season. So could the anime have a fourth season? In the continuation of our article, we have included all the known about the fourth season. Let’s first remember the series.

Short Anime Review After ‘Non Non Biori Nonstop’

A new season coming after a long time… Six years have passed since the second season. But as if no time has passed, the anime continues the same with everything. In general, when the new season of animes comes out after a long time, the studio and drawings may change, but everything in this anime has remained the same and in its place. As always, we watched the stagnant adventures of our sweet, charming main character, who had a fun time in a calm, peaceful and happy atmosphere.

He continued from the first grade, as time did not progress in the anime. Subjects such as everything staying the same, the characters that never grow and change, the environment that never changes can be a method used to complete the happy and peaceful atmosphere of this anime. Because there is a side in people that wants beautiful moments to never end. Maybe that’s why time doesn’t move in this anime. Although years have passed, the anime maintains its calming structure. Hoping to see Nattsun and Ren-chon again…

Will there be a fourth season of the anime?

Silver Link or any related company with the anime has yet to announce the fourth season. Despite its average popularity, Non Non Biyori is an anime that has been approved for a new season years later. If some conditions are met, we can meet again in a new season. The renewal decisions of animes depend on some main factors. For example, if the manga can’t provide enough source material, the probability of the anime continuing is almost nil. On the other hand, since animes are for-profit productions, the decision for a new season also depends on some financial criteria. We’ve been speculating about the fourth season of Non Non Biyori as there is no official announcement yet.

Does the manga provide enough source material?

Non Non Biyori, like most anime, is a manga adaptation. The manga of the series is written and illustrated by Japanese manga artist Atto. The series published by Media Factory began airing on September 26, 2009. It ended its publication life, which lasted for about 12 years, on February 26, 2021. No sequel is expected for the manga of the series at the moment. So it shows that the source material for this anime is limited.

16 volumes have been published for the manga series in total. The main critical question is how many of these volumes have been adapted into anime. The anime moves outside the timeline. For this reason, the manga volumes were not adapted to the anime in order. Each episode was inspired by different volumes. However, volumes 1-6 were used in the anime’s first season. In the second season, the 7th volume was skipped, and the volumes up to the 9th volume were adapted. The 71-minute movie, released before the third season, covers chapters 48 – 51 in the 7th volume of the manga. In the last season of the anime, Non Non Biyori Nonstop, Volume 16 was adapted up to chapter 120. The manga is no longer running, and almost all stock material has been used for adaptation. A new season of the anime is not expected as a sequel is not available.

Adapted
Season 1 Volumes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Season 2 Volumes 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9
Movie Volume 7
Season 4 Volumes 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16

What about the popularity of the series?

The anime’s Twitter account is followed by 143k people. That’s a really good follower count. Animes that are followed by more than 100k, in general, are promising for the new season. On the other hand, it has always managed to stay above average in the disc sales rankings. Although the third season sold 2,436 discs on average, which was lower than the previous seasons, the decrease in disc sales in recent years also has an effect. Although its popularity is promising for a new season, a new season does not seem possible as the manga does not provide enough source material.

What about a movie or OVA?

Although the creators do not have enough source material to create a new anime season, there are skipped chapters in the manga. It seems possible to create an OVA from these chapters or a movie like they did before. The show has a strong fan base, and the production team may want to capitalize on that popularity. We are hopeful for an OVA or movie in the future. We will notify you when there is official news. Till then, you can check out Blend S or Barakamon, in the slice of life genre and contains comedy.
