What was the plotline of Nagi no Asu Kara?
Long ago, people lived in the ocean, but some wanted to live on earth. Those left the ocean, adapted to the land conditions over time, and became the people of the earth. Today, there is a deep cliff between these people who separated their habitats.
Living in a village at the bottom of the sea called Shioshishio, childhood friends Manaka, Hikari, Chisaki, and Kaname transfer to a secondary school on earth after the closure of their school at the ocean. Because they are sea people, they are not welcomed in the school they go to but, Tsumugu, who comes from a family of fishermen himself, befriends these sea people.
Sea people have a glowing scale-like structure called “Ena” that surrounds their bodies. When it dries up, sea people begin to have difficulty breathing, and it is necessary to moisten their Enas with seawater frequently. On the other hand, land people cannot breathe and live in the sea because they don’t have Ena. Also, since children born from the union of a sea and a land person are born without Enas, the sea people who want to marry someone from the land and start a family are exiled from Shioshishio. This rule is to prevent the extinction of sea people.
The power of the Sea God weakens over time, as people prefer the earth to the sea. Natural disasters begin to occur, and both sides realize that something is wrong. The story that draws attention to global warming also tells that the world will get colder, and humanity will disappear soon. Sea people will be able to escape from this ice age by sleeping with the protection of the Sea God, but the same is not the case with earth people. Our main characters, who are disturbed by leaving everything behind and falling into an endless sleep, try to find a way to save the people of the earth.
Will there be a second season of the anime?
The anime’s first season aired from October 3, 2013, to April 3, 2014. Since the anime’s last episode aired, P.A.Works or any anime-related company has not renewed the anime for a second season yet. Although many years have passed, we have seen before that animes return to the screens with new season approvals. However, for this to happen, the anime must meet some important criteria. The most important of these factors, which generally shed light on the decision mechanism of the decision committee, are manga source adequacy, disc sales, and popularity.
As we mentioned at the beginning of our article, the manga series was adapted from anime and is not the main source material of the series. Since it is an original production, if P.A.Works prepares a new script, the new season may be possible independently of a written work.
Disc Sales and Popularity
Although disc sales have declined in recent years, BluRays were quite popular at the time Nagi no Asukara was released. The anime sold a total of 9 volume discs and managed to stay above the targets with an average of 4194 sales.
However, it is an inevitable fact that the popularity of anime has decreased in recent years. Now the series began to lose its popularity on Google with the effect of years. The anime has not been renewed for a new season, but we see a new season of the anime still possible in our review.
