Originally titled Koi to Yobu ni wa Kimochi Warui, Koikimo is a romantic comedy anime series that first aired in the spring of 2021. Although it made a splash with its anime, the series is based on Mogusu’s manga series, which has been publishing in Japan since 2015. The anime of the series was created by Nomad studio. The studio also undertook the animations of ‘Bungo Stray Dogs Wan!’ with studio Bones (Boku no Hero Academia) in 2021. The anime, tells about the romance between the main characters despite the age difference, was originally broadcast on Japanese local networks (AT-X, Tokyo MX, UHB, MRT, GTV, GYT, BS Fuji) between April 5, 2021 – June 21, 2021. The first season, consisting of 12 episodes, was also listed on Crunchyroll. In this way, a second season of the anime, which has gained worldwide viewers, is being wondered. What is the plotline of Koikimo?
Once you’re in love, you can’t put an end to that love easily. An unlikely encounter leads to the acquaintance of Amakusa Ryou, a high-skilled businessman who many women amuse, and Arima Ichika, the best friend of her high school student sister. He then falls madly in love. On the one hand, he approaches this high school girl in an almost overly open manner, while she unhesitatingly reprimands him and responds with simple disgust. And Amakusa Ryou takes this as our girl’s way of showing her love.
Will there be a second season of Koikimo?
At the time of writing, the studio Nomad or any anime-related company has not yet renewed anime for a second season. There is no official information or leak about creating a new season of the anime, but it is possible to speculate about it based on what is known. Since Koikimo’s anime television series is a manga adaptation, whether the manga has sufficient source material or financial circumstances are factors that affect the anime’s second season decision. The anime’s first season ended on June 21, 2021. When we look at the ratings, we see that the anime received average votes from the viewers. Besides, in Google searches, we see that it has an average search volume. On Twitter, on the other hand, the official page of the anime is currently followed by 18.2k people. It seems that anime is not popular enough in Japan. Osamake, another romantic comedy production released during the same period, surpassed 145k followers. The anime’s disc sales are still uncertain as its discs will be released on August 4, 2021.
Manga compared to anime series
The manga of Koikima is written and illustrated by Mogusu, as we mentioned at the beginning of our article. The manga series published by Ichijinsha in Japan began broadcasting on January 25, 2015. The manga series released its 8th volume on March 25, 2021, shortly before the release of the anime series. Since the manga does not have an English publisher, it is not yet followed worldwide.
Unfortunately, the 8th volume also meant the end of the series. Meanwhile, almost the entire manga story was adapted in the anime’s first season. Looking at the news, the manga isn’t planning a sequel, and it’s highly unlikely in the future. For this reason, unfortunately, we cannot give good news to our readers. Although the anime world is full of surprises, to be honest, we do not expect a second season of the series.
