Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma (aka Sōma of the Shokugeki) is an anime adaptation of the manga created by Yūto Tsukuda. The anime series, which was first announced in 2014, was broadcast on many popular platforms such as Netflix and Hulu TV. Also, Food Wars has been licensed by Crunchyroll from season three. The anime was created by the famous Japanese animation studio J.C. Staff, which releases many successful anime every year. The successful studio has also prepared the final season of The Disastrous Life of Saiki K and One Punch Man, which are beloved series in recent years. The anime adaptation of “Food Wars!”, directed by Yoshitomo Yonetani, began airing on April 4, 2015, and a total of 85 episodes were broadcast so far. After the end of Food Wars: Season 5, known as The Fifth Plate, fans are wondering about the sixth season. So will there be a sixth plate of Food Wars?

Food Wars: Shokugeki seasons review
The series actually started with a great first season. Undoubtedly, everyone thought the show was enormous. However, Food Wars could not meet this expectation in the following seasons and started to decline. What made the anime beautiful was the pleasant relationship between the characters and the comedy. The beginning of season 2 focused entirely on shokugeki and moved away from his style. But the end of the season surprisingly ended well with the ‘restaurant rescue’ test. The first two seasons are the most popular seasons of the series.
Season 3 begins with a magnificent introduction of “elite 10”. But after a very short time, it is understood that the elite ten is human like everyone else. Season 3 focused on foodgasm and shokugekiden. The series, which reduced the dose of comedy in Season 3 and 4, was expected to be the final in Season 4. The story was completed, but the producers decided to continue it for another season.
Although there are generally fluctuations in itself, anime is an above-average quality. We are harsh in our criticism because it failed to maintain its potential in the last seasons. Will there be a sixth season of ‘Food Wars!’?
As of May 29, 2022, at the time of writing, J.C.Staff or licensees have not renewed the series for a sixth season. The fifth season of the series was defined as the final season; the manga is currently fully adapted, and no new season is expected. The studio’s 2022 works do not contain the anime’s new season.
There are some criteria we can look at first to understand whether the series will have a 6th season. One of them is whether there is enough source material for anime. Anime’s sources are usually the manga series they were adapted to, and Food Wars is a manga adaptation as well.
The manga series written by Yūto Tsukuda and illustrated by Shun Saeki was published in Shōnen Jump + magazine in 2015. The latest volume of the manga ranked 13th on the best-selling manga list of 2019. The manga series, which aired 36 volumes in total, progressed in parallel with the anime series and shared its last episode in 2019. The manga series is now complete and isn’t ongoing anymore.
When is the sixth season of the anime, is it possible?
‘Food Wars!’ is a really popular anime series. We can see this from the broadcast life that lasts for five seasons. Few anime can have so many seasons in the anime world. For this continuity, success and sufficient popularity are expected in disc sales. Food Wars is ranked 53rd on Myanimelist based on popularity. If the source material were enough, we were sure we would see a new season of the anime.
However, as for the anime series, we actually watched an extra Season 5. Season 4 of the series was thought to be final. On October 4, 2019, the anime’s manga was completed, and it is no longer ongoing. It seems like a difficult omission that we see an extra new season. According to our evaluation, there will not be the sixth season of the series. However, surprises never end in the anime world.
