Fire Force, aka Enen no Shouboutai, is an anime series that was published in 2019 and attracted attention from all over the world with its quality. Although it is mostly known for its anime, the manga series is very popular, just as its anime adaptation. The manga series written by Atsushi Ōkubo has more than 7 million copies in circulation. The anime, which started to be broadcast in 2019 and made a sound with its second season, is being animated by David Production. We also know the studio from productions such as Cells at Work!. The anime is also one of the anime licensed by Funimation and Crunchyroll. It is also broadcast on Hulu TV and gained worldwide popularity this way. The second season of the anime is published from July 4, 2020, to December 12, 2020. Fans now wonder that if there would be a third season. So, have the series already been renewed for a third season?
What is the plotline of Fire Force?
In the 198th year of the solar age in Tokyo, special fire brigades are fighting the so-called “Infernal”, in which people spontaneously burn into Infernos. While the Infernal was the case of ordinary burning in the first generations, the advancing generations began to be able to control the flames while preserving the human form. Shinra Kusakabe, nicknamed, tries to extinguish all the Infernal incidents she encounters, and in the course of this endeavor, she joins the Special Fire Brigade Company 8, formed by other flame managers. With the emergence of a group that created an Infernal, Shira begins to unravel the secret over the mysterious fire that caused her family’s death 12 years ago.
Is the series renewed for a third season?
As of January 5, 2022, Fire Force has not yet been renewed for a third season. Manga publisher Kodansha or animation company David Production remain silent about the third season. However, this is a normal situation for an anime series, and there is no notice of cancellation yet. When some parameters are evaluated, we can comment on whether the series will be renewed for a third season. The most important of these parameters are source material adequacy and popularity.

Anime often use manga series as source material. Fire Force is a manga-adapted anime series like many of the animes. Published by Kodansha, the manga series written by Atsushi Ōkubo has been published in Weekly Shōnen Magazine since September 23, 2015, and it is still ongoing today. However, we have come to the end of this manga series. Atsushi announced that he would complete the Fire Force manga series. But is there enough source material for a third season of the anime?
So far, 32 volumes and 298 chapters with the chapters which are not in volume format yet, have been published for manga. The second season of the series covers approximately 19 volumes. So, we can say that the series has enough source material to be animated for a third season. However, if the series is renewed for a new season, Season 3 could be its final season, as the manga is currently in Final Arc.
The popularity of the anime
Another important factor behind a new season confirmation is popularity. Popularity, viewerships, and financial reasons are directly interrelated. Fire Force is an above-average anime with its ratings. It is also a popular anime that has managed to attract attention to the platforms where it is published. The anime is currently ranked 107th on Myanimelist based on popularity and it is quite good. On the other hand, there is a strong Google search volume for the anime. As an example, the number of searches related to anime is more than those made for popular animes like Vinland Saga or Food Wars!. When we look at the number of followers on Twitter (~200k), we also see that it has more followers than the anime we show as an example. The manga currently has more than 17.5 million copies in circulation and is expected to hit the bestseller lists soon.
When is the third season of Fire Force?
Although there is no renewal approval in line with all these evaluations, we think that the series will have a third season. The average production time is one year. There is exactly one year between the first two seasons of the series. If a new season is approved soon, we may see the new season of the anime at the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023.

What happened in season 2, and what is next?
Even though season 2 of Fire Force finished to air in 2020 December, fans are already uneasy about the next season’s plot. Since Fire Force creator Atsushi Ōkubo declared that the manga is coming to the end and Fire Force will be his final work, it is not certain what the manga’s future is. However, this doesn’t lessen the excitement for the events of season 3!
The last-aired episodes of Season 2 are covering the Chinese Peninsula arc, where Shinra finds out more and more about the Evangelist. Once this arc is completed, the Holy Sol Temple arc will probably be resolved in the other half of Season 2. According to the manga, Hajima Industries arc follows the events of the Holy Sol Temple. In Hajima Industries, we will be seeing more of Nataku Son. At the beginning of this arc, Shinra and Licht discover Hajima’s experimental subjects’ inhuman treatment. The two decide to take action to save Nataku from the barbarous situation he is in. However, they will have to find where Nataku is hidden first since the company claims he is kept in a different place.
To rescue Nataku and all the other children from the atrocious conditions, Shinra has to share his info of the Adolla Burst and be a part of a battle. Here, we will be introduced to a new character, Kurono, who will be Shinra’s opponent in this experimental battle. The battle between the two challenges Nataku’s powers, and he becomes uncontrollable. With that, Licht tries to help Shinra break away from this battle and go rescue Nataku. However, Kurono gets in the way, and Company 8 cannot help because they are faced with another opponent, Puppeteer. With Licht under a death threat and Shinra challenged by the powerful Kurono, Season 3 will probably end in a cliffhanger!
Is there a released trailer for season 3?
The second season of the series is just finishing, and it is too early to see a trailer for the third season. It is possible to see some fan-made trailers, but it is not possible to see an official new season trailer before a season 3 renewal.
