Fatma is a Turkish psychological drama mini-series written by Özgür Önürme, directed with Özer Feyzioğlu. Burcu Biricik and Uğur Yücel are in the lead roles in the series, and it is filmed in Beyoğlu and Eminönü, which are the famous places in İstanbul / Turkey. Netflix Turkey has good productions in recent years; another one of them was Ethos, other than Fatma. The series premiered on Netflix on April 27, 2021. The series tells the story of Fatma, who goes to cleaning jobs, and is drawn into unexpected chaos while searching for her missing husband, Zafer. Fatma realizes that she is an invisible “cleaning lady” that no one suspects. ‘Fatma’, which tells how an ordinary person can turn into a serial killer and what a mother can go through, contains many elements from today’s life; It helps us to “understand the people we pass by every day”. The series has been watched without breathing for six episodes. The sad ending at the end impressed all audience. Now, the fans are excited for the second season of Fatma. So, has Netflix renewed the series for a second season? When will it be released?
“Have you thought about what happens to people who have experienced many traumas?”
The series is about a woman named Fatma who is a cleaning lady. Her husband, released from prison, disappears after a while. The woman who starts looking for her husband commits murder unintentionally. After this first murder, she has to commit new murders in order to survive because of her husband’s past. While Fatma becomes “John Wick” for the sake of finding her husband, the whole audience feels her disappointment when she learns the truth. This series is actually just one of the stories of violence against women still going on in the 21st century.
The series basically tells the story of Fatma’s childhood sexual abuse and her child with autism. It tells the heartbreaking story of a mother with a child with autism, which resulted in his death. However, “her son being declared guilty when her son dies” really breaks the audience’s hearts. The series shows the audience a story that is identified with the experiences of many mothers with disabled children today. Mothers with disabled children who many people exclude… The series reminds the audience how to empathize.
Fatma commits many murders from the beginning to the end of the series, but no one thinks that Fatma can commit the murders and often does not even take Fatma seriously. Even though the audience thinks that the police always come for Fatma after the first murder, but the police do not come for Fatma. Fatma, who goes to the police station for her husband, is not taken seriously. That aside, everyone ignores the “cleaning lady”, but Fatma punishes anyone who hurts her around.
Throughout the series, whenever Fatma is subjected to violence, pushed around, or harassed, she ends up with a murder. In the murders of Şevket and Ekber, the audience observes that the sexual abuse she experienced in her childhood had a great impact. Female serial killers are not often seen on television, and this series tells the story of a murderous woman. As it is known, serial killers usually appear due to “childhood traumas”.
Will there be a second season of ‘Fatma’?
The first season of the series is aired on April 27, 2021. The audience is excited about the second season. However, there is no clear statement by Netflix that there will be a second season of the series or not. It has been difficult for the producers to approve new productions due to the Pandemic. We think that the second season of the series may come. Fatma, the character played by Burcu Biricik, was especially loved by the viewers, and her performance was also praised. The audience’s interest in the series and their love for the main character show that Netflix will likely renew the second season.
The real issue is how the script of the series can continue. In the last episode of the first season, Fatma cannot find a place to escape, and she finds herself from the police station’s roof. If the character dies, the series definitely ends. We cannot think of a second season of the Fatma series without Fatma. The series could have ended there when the character jumped off the roof, but it wasn’t. Fatma fell from the roof onto the car, and she obviously didn’t die. She moved both her hands and her eyes. There are two options here, Fatma may not die, and season 2 may come, or Fatma may be shown as dead, and season 2 may not come.
At the moment, it is not certain whether Netflix renews the series. Interest from Turkey and the world strengthens the possibility of a second season. It is not easy to talk so early for a series that was already broadcast on April 27. We will inform you if there is more official news.
