So, will there be a second season of this popular production?
The story of the series revolves around two young girls in the fictional town of Skylin, Texas, from their point of view. The most notable feature is that each episode takes place on the same days of the same three years (1993, 1994, 1995). The series is about the kidnapping of the most popular girl in town and the events that followed.
1993: When everything seems fine in the life of popular and beloved high school student Kate Wallis (Olivia Holt), she is kidnapped on a date we don’t quite know yet.
1994: In Kate’s absence, Jeanette Turner (Chiara Aurelia) took her place in social life and became close with her friends and even her boyfriend. Long-lost, Kate is rescued alive by the police from the home of assistant principal Martin Harris. In her statement and the interview she gave to the press, she explains that Jeanette saw her while she was imprisoned but that she was still in captivity because Jeanette did not inform anyone.
1995: After Kate’s statement, Jeanette becomes America’s most hated person, rarely leaving the house. Kate, on the other hand, is trying to erase the traces of the trauma she is still going through.
Will there be a Second Season of Cruel Summer?
The answer is yes! Cruel Summer has been renewed for season 2. The confirmation news came before the show’s first season finale. Cruel Summer, which is expected to complete its story at the end of the season, will return with a new story in the next season, either with the same cast/different story or by evolving into an anthology with a different cast. Freeform President Tara Duncan said in an interview that it was an easy decision to renew Cruel Summer for Season 2. Showrunner Tia Napolitano also thanked Iron Ocean, the team, the cast, and their collaboration with their partners at Freeform and eOne, stating that it was the best first show experience one could ask for. She also thanked fans for their positive response and expressed Cruel Summer season 2 as a dream come true.
So, when is the expected second season release date? Although the exact release date has not been known yet, the official Twitter account of the series wrote that the second season will be aired in 2022. Also, the trailer for the second season was published on June 15. Since the first season was also released in April, viewers expect the second season to air no later than April 2022.
What can we expect from Season 2?
At the end of the first season of Cruel Summer, Jeanette and Kate realize that it was Mallory, not Jeanette, who had saw her through Martin’s window and did not alert the police. Mallory later came out clear, explaining that she saw a woman with blonde hair at the window but did not comprehend that it was Kate. In the second season, we can see if Kate and Jeanette actually bury the ax, particularly when the truth that Jeanette knew Kate was abducted is at the risk of being exposed. Also, the second season will likely explore Kate and Mallory’s relationship. Can their kiss in the season finale be a starting point of a love story? Is Jeanette a lunatic? Will she deal with the guilt of leaving Kate in the basement? And will Kate learn everything eventually? Let’s watch and find out.
