Burning Kabaddi is one of the sports anime that has an important place in Japanese anime culture. The manga, which has been published since 2015, was adapted into anime for the first time in 2021 and was met with interest by anime lovers who love the sports genre in animes. The anime was created by TMS Entertainment, which deals with dozens of manga and light novel adaptations each year. We also know the studio from important anime adaptations such as Dr. Stone and Baki. Licensed by Crunchyroll, the anime, which has the opportunity to be watched from all over the world, was also broadcast on many local channels such as TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, AT-X as 12 episodes between April 3, 2021 – June 19, 2021. Only a very few of the anime can get the opportunity for the new season. What fans are wondering is, will Burning Kabaddi be among the anime that seizes this opportunity, and will there be a second season of the anime?
What is the plotline of the anime?
Tatsuya Yoigoshi, the nationally recognized star of the soccer team in middle school, quits the sport after losing interest in middle school. His hatred for sports continues into high school. Things start to change when he gets an invitation to play from Noukin High’s Kabaddi club by Azemichi Soma. Tatsuya initially taunts Kabaddi and does not show any attention towards the sport. However, that situation changes when he attends one of the workout sessions and is shocked to learn how Kabaddi requires extraordinary flexibility and athleticism. Despite the absurd rules of the game, after watching a club practice, he becomes interested in this fast-paced sport that resembles martial arts. Tatsuya realizes that his first impression of the sport can be wrong after seeing parallels between Kabaddi and the art of fighting. His sarcasm soon turns into a true passion for the sport, and in the end, he falls in love with Kabaddi.
Will there be a second season of Burning Kabaddi?
The anime’s first season ended on June 19, 2021. Considering that animes take a long break for seasons, it may be early for a new season. TMS Entertainment or any anime-related company has yet to renew the anime for a second season. However, it is possible to predict whether there will be a new season under some main factors. If the animes pass these main factors, they get the new season approval with a 95% probability. Chief among these is manga source material availability.
The manga of the series is written and illustrated by Hajime Musashino. The manga series published by Shogakukan is ongoing since July 2015. Only the first 4 volumes of the series, which consisted of 19 volumes in total, were adapted for the first season. It looks like the source material is available for a second season or even more.
Although there is enough written source material to create a new season, this is not the only important factor. Popularity is more important because animes are for-profit productions, and popularity is directly linked to revenues. The anime’s disc sales were pretty bad and off-target. On the other hand, when we look at the Twitter account of the anime, we see that very few people follow the series, even in Japan. 31k people currently follow the anime’s official Twitter account, which is a pretty low follower count for an anime aiming for a second season. We do not see a strong search volume in Google searches worldwide. Considering the popularity, a new season seems quite difficult. To be honest, we are not waiting for the new season of Burning Kabaddi.

At best, if an English publisher licenses the manga series, you can follow the sequel from the manga. However, we must say that the world of anime is full of surprises, and although this probability is very low, the creators can surprise us and their fans with a new season confirmation. Stay tuned for updates.
What can be the plotline of Season 2?
The first season ended with Noukin High School’s friendly match against Saitama Kyouyou High. Everyone present was stunned when Yoigoshi spun in the match to avoid dodge. At the end of the match, Yoigoshi gave the team 6 points overall, as 4 and 2 separately. Thanks to Yoigoshi, the score went 40:44 and Noukin High won the match. At the end of episode 12, Hiramoto told Yoigoshi that they would meet again if they both successfully entered the tournament.
We will continue to watch Noukin High’s matches in season 2. In the finale, Hiramoto announced that we will meet a new player. In fact, the player may be a foreigner. We will have the opportunity to learn where he is from, how successful he is in sports, and how he contributes to his team. Yoigoshi will finally face off against a player as successful as himself. In addition, we will check over the team’s three new characters in the new season.
