Boogiepop and Others is the 2019 anime adaptation of a very old script in the dark fantasy and horror genre. Originally based on a light novel written by Kouhei Kadono, the story has been adapted into many manga and TV productions. The 2019 anime series, directed by Shingo Natsume (One-Punch Man’s director), was created by the Madhouse studio. We have known the studio, which has signed under many successful anime since 2000, with Death Note anime. More recently, we watched the studio’s productions, such as One-Punch Man and No Guns Life. The anime, licensed by Crunchyroll and Funimation, was originally broadcast on AT-X, Tokyo MX, TV Aichi, KBS, SUN, BS11 from January 4, 2019, to March 29, 2019. After the first season of 18 episodes in total, fans are excited about the second season. Will there be a second season of the series?
What was the plotline of Boogiepop and Others?
There is an urban legend that children tell each other; about a shinigami that can save people from their suffering. This is the name of the “Angel of Death”: Boogiepop, and what is said about it is true. Boogiepop and his talent indeed exist. When schoolgirls at Shinyo Academy disappear one by one, the police and faculty are forced to admit they have many fugitives cases. However, Nagi Kirima knows the truth better than anyone, who thinks these events are due to a creature named Boogiepop; he is looking for it but cannot find it anywhere. Something too mysterious and sinister things are about to begin. Is it Boogiepop or more devils doing these?
Will there be a second season of the series?
The anime series has not yet been renewed for a second season. Neither Madhouse nor the broadcasters mentioned a renewal for the second season of the series. It can take years for anime to renew for a new season. We can make some predictions on this.
As we mentioned before, the anime is an adaptation of a light novel series that started broadcasting in 1998. As you can see from the list below, there are many main books, and there are many side stories that are not written here. The anime only covers a few books from the long list below. (It covers 5 of the first 6 novels. The 4th novel is omitted.) There are enough resources for the second and even a third season of the anime.

When is the release date of Boogiepop and Others Season 2?
The anime has not yet been renewed, but there are enough source materials available. In terms of popularity, things are going well. We think that the anime, which is also a great advertising opportunity in the sale of its books, will continue for a second season. The anime started running one year after it was announced. Based on this information, we can consider the average production time as one year. If a renewal comes, we can expect a new season of the anime in 2021, but there is no Boogiepop and Others Season 2 in Madhouse’s 2021 plan yet.
Old anime adaptation (Boogiepop Phantom)
Boogiepop and Others is not the only anime in the story released in 2019. In the early 2000s, the anime adaptation was released with the first books. Viewers waiting for the second season can also watch this adaptation to spend time. Madhouse created the anime series Boogiepop Phantom just like its new version. It consists of 12 episodes in total.
